High Ground is a real-time action-strategy VR game for Meta Quest inspired by the 1986 classic The Sentinel. A watchful Overseer scans the mountain from the summit above. Your objective is to reach the peak and disable it before sunrise — but every movement drains energy, forcing careful navigation of treacherous terrain. Portal across chasms, evade enemies that drain your power, and reach the high ground before daylight exposes you. In multiplayer races, up to four players climb simultaneously — using EMPs to disrupt enemies or blast rivals off the mountain.
Inspired by the tension and isolation of the 1986 strategy classic The Sentinel, High Ground reimagines those mechanics for virtual reality — placing players inside a world where every step is a calculated risk and the enemy never stops watching.
A mechanical Overseer sits at the summit of a dark mountain, scanning the terrain below with a relentless searchlight. Your mission is simple: reach the peak and disable it before sunrise. But nothing about the climb is simple.
Every movement drains your energy. Stand still too long and you'll lose your charge. Move carelessly and the searchlight finds you. Enemies patrol the slopes with different behaviors and patrol patterns — each one a threat that forces you to rethink your route. Your only weapon is an EMP that disrupts enemies temporarily, but it won't last long and won't save you if you're caught out in the open.
Your portal ability lets you leap across impossible gaps and reach higher ground — recharging on portal pads scattered across the mountain. Managing when to portal, when to move, and when to wait is the difference between reaching the summit and starting over.
In multiplayer races, up to four players climb simultaneously. EMPs become weapons against rivals as much as enemies. Blast a competitor off a ledge. Deny a portal pad. Race to the top while the Overseer hunts you all.
"High Ground was inspired by classic strategy games like The Sentinel — we wanted to reimagine that tension and isolation for VR. Every movement costs energy, so players are constantly balancing risk, positioning, and survival while climbing toward the summit. That pressure — knowing the Overseer is always watching — became the heart of the game."

JV Games Inc. is an independent game studio founded by Jag Jaeger and Vince Valenti — two developers who have been building games together since the late 1980s. What started as a garage studio operation has grown into a focused indie team with a philosophy that has never changed: small, controlled games built with craftsmanship and purpose.
The studio's credits include the acclaimed Towers RPG series for the Atari ST — with Towers II earning a 93% review score in ST Format Magazine — and Warhammer: Battle for Atluma for Sony PSP in 2006, a licensed tactical card game whose complexity competed with Magic the Gathering.
High Ground is JV Games' first Meta Quest release. A second title, Stone Fall — a story-driven VR tactical RPG set in a lost dwarven civilization — is currently in development targeting Q4 2026.
